N°9 Arne JacobsenHelga Mjöll Oddsdóttir
Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was a Danish architect and a designer who is remembered primarily for his furniture designs, especially his simple & functional chairs. However, he also was a productive and influential architect and one of the main contributors to functionalism in architecture that emerged in the 20th century.
The movement was inspired by the need to build a new & better world for the people after the devastations of WWI with the principles of practicality, simplicity, harmony and quality. Really, the same values that the Nordic lifestyle is based on.
So, the stars aligned, “Scandinavian design” became a household name worldwide, a brand. With Arne Jacobsen as one of its main players.
