Connie Nielsen is a popular Danish actress best known for playing the role of Hippolyta in the DC Comics Extended Universe appearing in films including Wonder Woman, Justice League and more. You may have also seen her in movies such as The Devil’s Advocate, Gladiator, and Mission to Mars.
Born in Frederikshavn in the village of Elling Denmark, Nielsen began her acting career working with her mother who participated in acting and writing musical reviews. It was later when she turned 18 that she moved to Paris, France where she worked as an actress and model. Nielsen continued to travel and pursued an education in drama in Italy and Milan. She even lived in Italy for many years before coming to New York where she currently resides.
Nielsen’s breakthrough role was in Ridley Scott’s Academy Award winning Gladiator which gained immense global success. It was for this role of Princess Lucilla that Nielsen won Best Actress from the Empire Awards. Additionally, she has won Best Actress Awards from the Dansh Academy Awards for her role in Brødre (also known as Brothers).
Since starting her career in the mid 1980’s, Nielsen has worked and starred in over 35 films and has been featured in a variety of television shows. In addition to her acting career, she is also a trained singer and dancer and is fluent in 8 languages including English, German, Danish, Swedish, French and Italian.
