N°11 The Louisiana Museum of ArtHelga Mjöll Oddsdóttir
I visited the Louisiana Museum of Modern art last week, the most visited art museum in Denmark. It was my first visit, even though I used to live in Copenhagen, just a short train ride away.
Louisiana has an extensive permanent collection of modern and contemporary art, dating from World War II to the present day; in addition, it has a comprehensive programme of special exhibitions. I saw a show called “Fantastiske kvinder” that featured 34 surrealist women artists. It was a good show and furthermore the building of the museum and its surroundings were evenly as interesting.
The museum was created in 1958 and its name derives from the first owner of the property, Alexander Brun, who named the villa after his three wives, all called Louise.
With the objective of further developing the museum as a cultural platform, The Louisiana runs a Youtube channel called “Louisiana Channel”. They produce very interesting and highly insightful interviews with artists. We highly recommend you to take a look at the museum next time you are in Denmark and until then enjoy their Youtube channel.
