Nº7 ShoplifterHelga Mjöll Oddsdóttir
Shoplifter is one of Iceland’s leading contemporary artists. Her real name is Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir, she comes from Reykjavík but is based in NY. She works with synthetic and natural hair and is known for her sculptures, murals and site-specific installations. With her art, Shoplifter explores themes of vanity, self-image, fashion, beauty and popular myths. Her work has a magical feel to it because of the mixture of colours, shapes and texture.
In 2004, Shoplifter collaborated with Björk and created the hair mask for the cover of her album Medúlla and in 2019 she represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale, with her installation Chromo Sapiens.
