The Swedish Dala horse is a unique product. Everything is made by hand and each horse has its own character, so there are no two identical horses in the world – just as there should be with a real craft. Every single one is hand carved and painted.
In the past they were a by-product of furniture making and were sold on the side. They are embedded in Swedish culture as a symbol of good luck. This Dala horse is made by Nils Olsson Dalahästar, a factory that started in 1928 and has been running since then.
The Dala horse came into international recognition at the 1939 World Fair in New York and is widely regarded as one of the most famous symbols of Sweden.
